These resources will help you learn more about SCU's Core Curriculum.

Faculty Resources

Whether you're designing a new Core course, teaching in the Core, or advising students, these pages explain how the Core Curriculum works and how courses are approved. Familiarity with the Core's learning goals and objectives will strengthen your course design and your advising.

Preparing and Submitting a Core Syllabus

The syllabus guidelines walk you through designing a Core course, preparing your syllabus, and submitting it for review. Deadlines for Core review fall at the end of the first week of each quarter.

For courses scheduled for Fall 2026: Friday, April 3, 2026
For courses scheduled for Winter 2027: Friday, September 25, 2026
For courses scheduled for Spring 2027: Friday, January 8, 2027

Faculty Core Committees

Every course syllabus is reviewed by one of SCU's fourteen Faculty Core Committees, and the University-wide Core Curriculum Committee advises on broader policy issues.

Learning Objectives by Core Area

Each Core area is guided by a set of key learning objectives. Review them as you design a course, align assignments, or advise students about requirements.
