Delvin Ntale ’28, an Accounting major, chose Santa Clara University for its strong ties to his Catholic faith. "I was seeking a college community that was tied to my Catholic faith," he explains, "and SCU was the best fit when it came to that." Originally from Sacramento, California, Delvin was drawn to accounting by his love of problem-solving. "I enjoy tackling challenges with numbers," he says. "The profession of accounting also has a great deal of rules, and I enjoy learning about them because they equip me to solve the problems that I'm faced with in classes and will be faced with in my future career."

His favorite class so far, ACTG-11, gave him a foundation in financial accounting. "I enjoyed being challenged with new concepts like statements of cash flows and adjusting journal entries," he recalls, adding that his ACTG-12 professor, Professor Cedergren, was engaging and set him up for success. Outside the classroom, Delvin found an unexpected passion in Club Rugby. "I went to one rugby training session in the fall quarter of my first year and did not look back," he says. "I enjoy playing with my teammates a lot—they're all great guys, and many of them have become the closest friends that I've made on campus."

Delvin also credits a member of the SCU Jesuit community for shaping his experience. "Ever since I've arrived on campus, Fr. Calero has looked out for me," he shares. "We check in multiple times throughout the school year, and he has continued to take an interest in my Santa Clara experience. I'm extremely thankful for his presence."

Receiving the Fr. Coz Scholarship has made his education possible. "For context, I come from a single-parent household, and I have two younger sisters," he explains. "One of them just began their first year of college, and the other will do so in about three years. The Fr. Coz Scholarship has taken a tremendous amount of that pressure off." Delvin pays that support forward through active campus leadership, stepping into the role of president of the Black Business Association while continuing as a Faith Formation teacher in Campus Ministry and beginning a new role as a Political Science peer educator.

Looking ahead, Delvin plans to graduate and earn his CPA license as soon as possible after graduation. To the donors who support the scholarship, he offers heartfelt gratitude. "My family and I are deeply grateful for their generosity," he says. "During my first couple of years at SCU, there were moments where my family questioned how we'd be able to cover the cost of attendance. This scholarship has taken those feelings of anxiety and uncertainty away."
