Alice Fischetti

Lecturer

Alice Fischetti is a Lecturer of Italian Studies in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. She holds an M.A. in Italian Studies from New York University, where her work examined gendered language and marginality in Italian Renaissance lyric poetry. She will receive her Ph.D. in Italian Studies, with a designated emphasis in Women, Gender, and Sexuality, from the University of California, Berkeley in 2027. Her current research engages with literary, visual, and cinematic traditions from Italian Unification (1861) to the present to investigate how violent notions of identity travel through aesthetic forms, specifically examining products of the ‘migrant’ and postcolonial traditions for re-articulations of racist and Orientalist discourse.

Prior to joining SCU, she taught Italian language and culture courses at UC Berkeley, with additional work as a language instructor, editor, and translator in Italy spanning the past decade. In addition to fostering inclusiveness and care in the classroom, her teaching prioritizes students’ lived experiences and critical social engagement.
