What are you doing this summer? This summer, I worked as an Audit Intern at EY in the San Francisco office. Some of my main responsibilities involved working on an integrated audit, where I analyzed prior-year documentation to identify changes in internal controls and inspected evidence to prepare workpapers supporting account-level audit procedures.

Hopefully you’ve grown both professionally and personally from this summer experience. Name one or two “life” lessons you learned and will carry forward after graduation. One incredibly important life lesson I learned through this internship was understanding my priorities in the workplace and recognizing the difference between simply having coworkers vs. being part of a community. This summer taught me that you do your best work and make your greatest contributions when you’re surrounded by people who not only support you, but genuinely respect and root for you. Nothing impacts the enjoyment of your work more than the people you work with, and I was fortunate to find that sense of community at EY this summer.

What has been the most memorable part of your experience? The most memorable part of my summer experience was participating in a pickleball event through the Women’s Network at EY! Not only do I love the sport, but it was also an incredible opportunity to interact with EY professionals and my fellow interns outside of the office, bonding over a sport that we all love and enjoy.

What advice would you give to younger students who are searching for summer opportunities? My advice to younger students searching for summer opportunities is to start early and look broadly. Many opportunities are hidden and often accessible only through chance inquiries or networks that take time to build. I’ll also say that some of my most unexpected and rewarding experiences have come from keeping an open mind and pursuing opportunities that didn’t necessarily align with my major, but nevertheless approaching those experiences with the intention to learn and grow.
